Many STDs don't have symptoms for many months after exposure, so the only way to know for sure if you have an STD is get tested. Our staff are non-judgemental, sex positive and well versed on different STI infections. If you don't have any symptoms or known expsoures, STD screening can be completed with our nurse. For individuals who have symptoms or have a known expsoure, testing can be completed with one of our providers. Canopy also provides STI treatment and PrEP services (pre-exposure prophylaxis againt HIV).
Sexually transmitted diseases/infections, or STDs/STIs, are spread through sexual contact. They’re caused by bacteria, a virus, or another type of microscopic organism. STIs are very commong, and lots of people who have them don't have any symptoms. But the good news is that getting tested is no big deal, and most STDs are easily treatable.
STD/STI testing is available at Canopy for some of the most common infections, including:
Some STDs/STIs clear up with antibiotic treatment while others may not be cured, but their symptoms managed.
STI testing uses a sample of your blood, urine, saliva or a swab from your genitals, to check for infection. Some results are available within 20 minutes while other results can take 2-3 days for results.
The team at Canopy Medical Clinic tries to accommodate same-day STD testing appointments and usually accepts walk-ins if time is available.
Following the confidential testing, the team provides counseling, so you know how to manage your diagnosis.
Anyone sexually active can develop an STI and should get routine testing. If you have multiple partners, testing is recommended more frequently.
You should also come in for STI testing if you have any of the following symptoms:
Even if these symptoms go away on their own, you should still get a test. Infections linger until you get treated and can cause complications, including pain, internal scarring, and infertility.
